Our mission is to partner with public safety officials to make our community safer and more able to handle natural or man-made disasters through volunteer training, education and planning. Some of the potential major disasters we might encounter are:
- Long-term power outages, road blockages, or hazards due to natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, major snow storms and floods;
- Exposure to spills and/or hazardous materials (Route 495, with more than 50,000 vehicle trips per day, runs through the most heavily populated area of Boxborough);
- Pandemic flu; and
- Terrorist attack.
We belong to the MRC Massachusetts Region 4a. All members are expected to complete ICS 100 and NIMS 700 training, which is available free on-line through the MEMA website, or at courses being held in and around our district. Other free trainings are available. Go to www.region4a-mrc.org for more information.
